Lower Richland High School forfeits state playoff gameThe Lower Richland football team has been disqualified from the state playoffs.
The Diamond Hornets had to forfeit their opening round win over Blue Ridge because of an ineligible player.
Lower Richland upset Blue Ridge last week 26-21 in the opening round of the AAA playoffs.
It was Lower Richland's first playoff win since 1995, but that victory was stripped away by the South Carolina High School League. Lower Richland finished the season with a 4-7 record.
Lower Richland was scheduled to play at Daniel Friday.
Instead, Blue Ridge received a call Thursday at 4:30 informing them the Diamond Hornets were disqualified and they were still alive.
The coaches had to reissue equipment and quickly come up with a game plan to take on Daniel Friday night.
