Cops: Pregnant woman slashes man's wrists using broken bottle

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

A pregnant 44-year-old woman is behind bars accused of using a broken wine bottle to slash a man's wrists.

The Charleston Police Department charged Tara O. Ferrell with second-degree assault and battery.

The 47-year-old victim told officers he was at the corner of Hanover and Reid streets on Sunday when Ferrell came up to him. Authorities say the victim placed his hand over Ferrell's shoulder and asked her how her baby was doing since she is five months pregnant.

Ferrell then told the victim,"Don't put your hands on me."

According to investigators, during a verbal fight between the two, Ferrell picked up a wine bottle that was on the sidewalk and broke it.

A police report states that Ferrell then took the broken wine bottle and cut the victim on the left and right wrist.  The victim said Ferrell then walked off.

The victim was transported to the hospital where he received three stitches to his left wrist and fourteen stitches to his right wrist.
