Serial lottery winner surprises wife with $200,000

DILLON, SC (WMBF) - A North Carolina man has found he has more luck across the border, and has returned to South Carolina to play for his biggest win yet.

Retired from service in the Air Force, the Rowland, NC resident has traveled just across the border into Dillon to play the South Carolina Education Lottery more than once.

A few times he won $1000. Twice he won $10,000. But just last week he won $200,000.

After driving back into to South Carolina to collect his winnings, the veteran told lottery officials that he planned to surprise his wife with the check.

"I always thought I was lucky before the Lottery came along," he said eager to share the news with his family in North Carolina. "I have a great family, and they are my main priority."

For selling the claimed ticket, Waynes BP LLC in Dillon received a commission of $2,000.

Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina's students. In all, more than $2.9 billion has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
