Donations pouring in after local man rescues dog from creek

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Donations are pouring into the Charleston Animal Society in honor of the local man who rescued a dog from a North Charleston creek.

Spokeswoman Kay Hyman says more than $750 dollars has been donated since Sunday, when a dog was pulled from Noisette Creek.

A fisherman, Alton Ledlow, jumped into the creek to rescue the dog.  He said it was wearing a harness that was weighted down by rocks.

Ledlow himself suffers from lingering injuries sustained when he was struck by a drunk driver four years ago. Another dog was also found at the scene. Both were extremely emaciated and one had contracted pneumonia.

Hyman says both dogs are doing better, but that the dog pulled from the water remains in "guarded" condition.

Ledlow told us he wants to adopt both dogs.  He fittingly wants to name the dog he pulled from the water Poseidon, and he wants to name the other dog found nearby Abel.
