The Richland County Coroner says a restaurant worker was killed in downtown Columbia Monday night.

Coroner Gary Watts reported the man was on his way home from work at about 11 p.m. when he lost control of his moped in the 800 block of Lincoln St. and was thrown from the moped.

Watts identified the man as Selso Tayun, who was from Guatemala.  Watts said Tayun was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene from head trauma.

The Columbia Police Department is investigating the crash.
