The Richland County Coroner has identified a man who died in a motorcycle crash Tuesday morning on the Interstate 26 bridge over the Broad River.

Coroner Gary Watts said 29-year-old Jonathan Buckner of Lexington was riding a motorcycle that hit a guardrail on the bridge near Huger St.   He and a passenger were thrown from the motorcycle.

Buckner died at the scene. Buckner's passenger was taken to the hospital, where a condition has not been released.

Watts said Buckner and his passenger were wearing helmets, but Buckner's came off during the crash.

Watts said the motorcycle was speeding at the time of the crash.

Jennifer Timmons said the crash occurred at about 2 a.m.

The crash closed the ramp for several hours Tuesday morning while the Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit investigated. One lane from Elmwood Ave. to outbound 126 was closed during the investigation.
