State probation, parole agent accused of taking bribe

SLED agents have arrested a former agent from the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole, and Pardon on charges that he took money from an offender in exchange for that person's release.

According to a release from SLED, 49-year-old Vincent O'Neal Howard of Summerville, was charged with public officials, bribes, influence action of a state employee.

Officials say on Oct. 23, Howard, an acting as an agent of PPP, solicited money from an offender under his supervision in exchange for release from supervision.

Days later, investigators say Howard received a payment from the offender as part of an undercover investigation.

Howard was then arrested and booked at the Berkeley County Detention Center.
