Affordability stressed for SC beach visitors

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - The campaign to attract visitors to the Grand Strand next year will increase its focus on digital devices but will again stress the affordability of the area.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports that industry leaders got an update Tuesday on marketing efforts.

Scott Schult of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce says 30% of the traffic on the chamber's visitor website now comes from mobile devices. He says the chamber is making it easier to plan a vacation using those devices.

About 100 industry leaders were told the ads will also stress the affordability of the Grand Strand. Last summer, vacationers stayed fewer nights, visited fewer attractions and ate out less.

Myrtle Beach is the heart of South Carolina's $15 billion tourism industry.
