MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A woman is recovering after police say an ex-boyfriend attacked her with a make-shift club outside her home.

When police arrived at the home on Carolina Cove Drive Tuesday night, what they found was a "bloody crime scene."

The female victim was inside the home and bleeding heavily from her head.

According to the report, the woman was returning home after walking her dogs when an ex-boyfriend leaped from behind a column and began to strike her with a hard object.

The victim ran up the steps to call 911 because she could not fight off her alleged attacker, and says he ran away toward his home just down the street.

A witness told police they saw the suspect, 52-year-old Lennett Nathaniel Carter, sneaking around the side of the building the victim lived in, and he ran past her without speaking, which she noted was unusual.

The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment, as officers on scene searched for Carter.

The report states they found him in his apartment building wearing only undergarments, and they clothes the victim described him wearing were tossed on the bed. When they searched his apartment they found half of a pool stick, which appeared it had been "cut down and taped off to form a club-like device."

Carter was taken into custody and charged with criminal domestic violence high and aggravated. After police discovered he had been reportedly harassing the victim, he was also charged with unlawful communication.

The current condition of the victim is unknown.
