Officer charged with driving too fast for conditions in accident

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

An officer from the Columbia Police Department was involved in a two car accident Thursday morning, according to officials from the agency.

The accident happened at the intersection of Devine and Kalmia streets near the intersection of Beltline Boulevard around 11:15 a.m.

Officials say the officer and the other vehicle involved in the crash were traveling east on Devine Street when traffic stopped for a mail truck. At that point, according to investigators, the patrol car struck the other car from behind.

A spokesperson with the department says the officer received minor injuries. No word on injuries to the person in the other car.

The officer, identified as Joshua Snyder, is being charged with driving too fast for conditions.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
