Experience in Political or Related Positions:
12 years as School Board Member in Lexington Richland School District 5. During the 12 years I have served in a number of leadership roles to include serving as Secretary, Vice Chairman and as Chairman for the past 4 years (2008 – Present).
Leading the effort in the community to pass the successful 2008 Bond Referendum which resulted in:
-Renovations and additions at older schools (4 elementary and all High Schools)
-Building the Center for Advanced Technical Studies (opened 2012)
-Building Spring Hill High School (scheduled to open 2013)
-Maintained SD5's status as the States #1 Public School District
-Ensuring that all students receive the opportunity for success in District 5
-Attracting and hiring one of the State's top educators in Dr. Stephen Hefner as Superintendent

Robert Gantt has been involved in District Five for more than 25 years, serving in various capacities as a volunteer and 12 years as an elected School Board member. He served as president of the Irmo Elementary (IES) Parent Teacher Association (PTA) for two years, chairperson of the IES School Improvement Council (SIC) for one year and a member for four years, member of Dutch Fork Elementary SIC for two years, member of Irmo Middle Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO), chairperson of the Dutch Fork Middle SIC for two years, chairperson for the Dutch Fork High School SIC for three years, member of the Parents Advisory Cabinet, Calendar Committee, Building Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, Personnel Committee and Fine Arts Committee. Mr. Gantt volunteered as a bus driver for several athletic teams at Dutch Fork High School and is known as the "Voice of the Silver Foxes" for his announcing of football games and other athletic events. Mr. Gantt has served as a member of the School Board since November 2000, being re-elected in 2004 and 2008. While a member of the School Board, he has served as Board Secretary, Vice-Chairman and Chairman from 2008 to present. Mr. Gantt also serves on the Board of Directors for the South Carolina School Boards Association, currently serving as Treasurer.
He has been married to Laura Smith Gantt for 43 years and is the father of three daughters, all graduates of School District 5. He is also the proud grandparent of a current first grade student at River Springs Elementary school.
