COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Columbia Police have charged the driver of a vehicle involved in Friday morning's fatal pedestrian accident.

Delown Hoyt Hill, 44, was given a citation for driving too fast for conditions.

The initial investigation shows Hill was traveling south on Assembly Street through a green light at Blanding Street around 7:00 a.m. when the incident happened.

The victim, identified by the Richland County Coroner's Office as 54-year-old Alton A. Floyd, Jr., was crossing Assembly Street outside of the crosswalk when Hill hit him.

Floyd, Jr., of Columbia, was taken to Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital where he later died.

Police believe both Hill and Floyd, Jr. contributed to the accident.

CPD's Traffic Safety Unit continues to investigate.
