Search for missing NC boys continues in Fairfield Co.

Jake Ziegler and Ray Pierce told friends they were headed to Myrtle Beach when they got into a green Pontiac G6 and headed south from Catawba County North Carolina. That was around 1 a.m. Saturday.

Since then, friends and family have heard nothing.

"This is out of character just to cut off contact with his friends," said Kim Pierce, Ray's sister.

Kim was in Fairfield County on Thursday where deputies say one of the boys cell phone was picked up by a nearby tower. Volunteers and law enforcement continued their search near Interstate 77 and route 200, looking for any sign of the boys or that green Pontiac.

Chief Deputy Keith Lewis says they don't think the boys are still in the county, but they want to rule out all possibilities.

"They could've run off the highway and not left any skidmarks and wound up in the woods off the interstate, on one of these secondary roads, and we want to make sure that didn't happen," said Lewis.

Meanwhile, an employee at a Myrtle Beach Belk says she sold the pair clothes Saturday, and police are checking surveillance video to confirm. More rumors and sightings have popped up on Facebook where a community page already has more than 14,000 followers.

Meanwhile, Kim and her friends continue to wait, wonder, and hope.

"Me and my brother are really close, and with Jake as well. He comes over all the time and even if they're in trouble, my brother could have come to me with anything," said Kim.
