Lucy Anne Meetze

Non-partisan candidate for Newberry County School Board District 3.

Occupation: teacher

Education: B.S. accounting, Clemson University; and M.S. secondary education, USC

Experience in Political or Related Positions: I am now serving my eighth year on the Newberry County School District Board.

Why should voters choose you in this election?

My work experience as an auditor and as a teacher enable me to clearly see the importance of making wise financial decisions that are in the best interests of our students and teachers and that do not unnecessarily burden Newberry County taxpayers. I work hard to ensure that the District keeps all unnecessary costs down to enable as much money as possible to get into the classrooms.

Even with the severe budget cuts that Newberry County School District has faced in recent years, my work on the board has helped keep costs down and enable the District to give our teachers a step increase each year. The board has been able to keep furlough days to a minimum and keep teacher student ratios below the state requirements. I have worked hard to make sure the district maintained a healthy fund balance. We were able to use some excess fund balance this year to avoid a tax mileage increase. All of the citizens in Newberry County and especially our small business owners need as much tax relief as we can provide.

I look forward to continuing the momentum that has been achieved during my tenure. As the mother of four sons who were all educated by the Newberry County School District, I know that the Newberry County School District is a district whose priorities truly are the children we educate.
