Assault victim walks into bar with broken jaw, brain bleed

SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A woman in Surfside Beach is lucky to be alive, and the man accused of beating her within an inch of her life is facing charges in Virginia awaiting a trip back to an Horry County prison.

The female victim recalled to Surfside Beach Police that she was walking to a bar with her boyfriend when they began to argue and he called her a "[expletive] whore." The next thing she remembers was waking up in the hospital.

The woman stumbled into the Sundown Bar on Surfside Drive around 9 p.m. Saturday night. She was sitting outside when officers with the Surfside Police Department arrived, describing how her boyfriend allegedly inflicted the wounds on her face.

Once at the hospital, officers noted in the report that the female victim had a broken jaw, several broken teeth, one missing tooth and a brain bleed. There was a hand print on her upper left arm.

The victim also told police she lived with the boyfriend and her mother, who coincidentally reported that her daughter's vehicle and several belongings had been taken from the home before she realized something had gone awry.

Officers searched the immediate area for the suspect, but not finding find, sought a warrant for his arrest for assault and battery.

The suspect, 25-year-old David McCarty, was entered in the National Crime Information Center on Sunday was picked up by authorities in Greenville, Virginia on unrelated charges.

Surfside Beach Police report McCarty will be extradited to face charges in connection with this assault once he is charged in Virginia.
