AUBURN, AL (WBRC) -
The Auburn Tigers saw the Arkansas Razorbacks slip away from them as the Tigers found their 4th loss in the 2012 season.
Arkansas, on the first possession of the game, pressed down to the into the red zone, but had to settle for a field goal attempt after 8 plays. Razorback Zach Hocker was called out to kick, but the 26-yard attempt was no good. On their next possession, Arkansas was able to break into the endzone with a 10-play drive. Razorback Dennis Johnson rushed 2 yards for the touchdown with just over 1 minute remaining in the first quarter. Zach Hocker's extra point was good.
In the second quarter, Arkansas added another three points to their score after capitalizing on an Auburn fumble. Tiger Emory Blake grabbed a pass from Kiehl Frazier but fumbled to Arkansas' Will Hines at the Auburn 29. The Auburn defense was able to hold them out of the endzone and Zach Hocker kicked a 27-yard field goal with 6:33 remaining in the half. The teams went into the locker room with Arkansas leading 10-0.
The Tigers were able to get points on the board at the end of the third quarter. In 5 plays, Auburn's offense covered 68 yards with QB Clint Moseley responsible for two big passes. One pass to Tre Mason covered 22 yard to the Arkansas 46. Three plays later, Moseley landed one in the arms of Emory Blake for 21 yards and the touchdown with 33 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Cody Parkey's extra point brought the score to 10-7.
Arkansas answered the score with their own touchdown. Their next possession had the Razorbacks cover 75 yards in 5 plays before score. The hogs capped off the drive with a Brandon Mitchell pass for 26-yards to Javontee Herndon with 13:30 remaining in the game. Zach Hocker tacked on the extra point.
The Razorbacks returned to the endzone about 5 minutes later.The 7-play drive covered 40 yards. Arkansas' Dennis Johnson rushed the 2 yards needed to score with 8:20 left in the game. Zach Hocker's extra point brought the score to 24-7.
Auburn came back from the Arkansas touchdown with a great momentum. QB Clint Moseley completed 6 passes to cover 54 yards, but the seventh pass landed in the arms of Razorback Alan Turner for a touchback. The Tiger defense was then able to force a fumble from the Arkansas offense, but as Auburn was poised to score, the Clint Moseley pass was again intercepted. This time, Arkansas' Ross Rasner got the ball for another touchback. The game finished with the score at 24-7.
Next week, Auburn hits the road to take on Ole Miss. Kickoff is set for 11:21.
