COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Around lunch time Friday, the Richland County Election office on Hampton Street had a line of people with voting-related business out the door and stretching toward the street.

Little did some know they didn't have to be here.

"Obviously perhaps there needs to some updates to the web site to make it more clear," said one person.

While many of the Richland County voters were there to cast absentee ballots or take care of other matters including address changes or getting duplicate cards, quite a few showed up and waited to register for next month's elections.

They did not know the state got the go-ahead to begin online registration on Tuesday.

Shortly after that happened, State Election Commission reported more than 3,100 voters had already signed up online. But the change did not make its way onto several county election web sites.

Friday afternoon those sites for voters in some of the state's most heavily populated areas were still telling visitors they'd have to print out a registration form and either mail it or deliver it in person.

If you haven't registered to vote in the November elections, you are running out of time.

Voter registration offices will be open in most counties for a few hours Saturday. But if you aren't signed up by Saturday, you won't be able to vote next month.
