HARTSVILLE, SC (WMBF) - An elderly woman's purse was taken by force in a grocery store parking lot, leaving her with a broken leg, and now police in Hartsville say they have a suspect behind bars.

Russell Cox, spokesman for the City of Hartsville, say the purse snatching occurred in the parking lot of the Piggly Wiggly on Monday, when a 72-year-old woman was attacked and left with a broken leg.

The suspect, 39-year-old Pamela Bramlett Howell, was taken into custody early Tuesday morning and charged with strong armed robbery and assault and battery.

She is being held in the Darlington County Detention Center.

"Because of the hard work of our Criminal Investigation Unit, the Hartsville Police Department has been able to move quickly in arresting and charging the suspect," Police Chief James Hudson said. "I'm proud of our investigator's work on this case."
