SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) -

A Summerville police officer was taken to the hospital Tuesday morning after troopers say he crashed his cruiser into a brick wall while turning onto Old Trolley Road.

South Carolina Highway Patrol Corporal Bob Beres said the single-vehicle wreck happened around 6:35 a.m. when the officer was trying to turn onto Trolley Road from Bacons Bridge Road.

The officer was taken to Summerville Medical Center by EMS.  Corporal Beres was not able to provide any details on the extent of his injuries.

Traffic was redirected around the intersection for about an hour Tuesday as emergency officials worked to clear the scene.
