COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -
A University of South Carolina student was arrested after police say he was carrying a handgun illegally in Five Points.
Columbia Police arrested 20-year-old Joshua Isaiah Williams just before midnight Thursday. He is charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon and Resisting Arrest.
Police officers responded to the report of a suspicious person in the 600 block of Santee Avenue. Police say they talked to Williams, who gave them consent to search him.
When asked if he had any weapons, police say Williams told them that he did not. During the search, police say they found a loaded .25-caliber handgun on him.
Police say Williams did not have a concealed weapons permit, and he is not of legal age to possess one.
Williams was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
