KERSHAW COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

"These guys were just a couple of thugs."

That was how Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews described two men who led officers on a high-speed chase through Camden early Friday morning.

The two men face a myriad of charges in connection to the chase.

Matthews said 32-year-old Christopher Murphy and 33-year-old Kendrick Wilson were arrested following the chase.

Murphy has been charged with failure to stop for a blue light, DUI, DUS, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, simple possession of marijuana and resisting arrest.

Wilson has been charged with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and simple possession of marijuana.

Investigators say a traffic officer attempted to stop the pair and give them a warning for a faulty headlight, but they quickly fled the scene to Highway 521 and Interstate 20.

During the chase, deputies noted drugs being thrown out the window. Investigators eventually recovered 40 pieces of crack cocaine and a small quantity of marijuana.

The chase came to an end when the suspects' vehicle blew its engine near exit 101 on I-20.

"They're crack dealers," said Matthews. "Both of them are drug dealers and we're happy to get them out of our community and into the jail. Hopefully the courts will keep them there."

Both men are being held in the Kershaw County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing Saturday morning.
