It's a classic rivalry that doesn't play out in a sporting arena. It's on the streets and roads of the Midlands.

This weekend the Lexington County Sheriff's Department takes on the Columbia Police Department.  And it's for a good cause.

Both men are boxing for bullet-proof vests for their departments. The winner gets a trophy and a belt, too.

It's promoted as Metro Madness 2.

The Columbia Police Department is being represented by Emanuel "Manny" Dejesus, a one-time Junior Olympian and Navy boxer.

His opponent, Patrick "the Hammer" Hanko, is a Lexington County Sheriff's deputy.

Both boxers say there's no real angst between the departments, but both say they intend to fight to win.

"I am representing the department and I have a lot of coworkers who are cheering me on," said officer Dejesus. "They're putting some pressure on!"

"I'm hearing about it at work, let's just say that," said Deputy Hanko. "I definitely want to win."

No matter who wins, both departments will split proceeds to get two bullet-proof vests for each department.

The action starts at 7:30 Saturday night at the Township Theatre. The officers are part of the under card and expected to fight around 9 p.m. before the main event.
