ST. MAARTEN (WCSC) -
A newspaper in St. Maarten has released the identity of the suspect police arrested in the slayings of a Mt. Pleasant couple.
The St. Maarten News Network has identified the suspect as 28-year-old Meyshaun Johnson, a Jamaican national.
Police spokesman Ricardo Henson says Johnson was arrested before dawn Sunday. He has not been charged yet.
According to the newspaper, Johnson was robbing Michael and Thelma King, who were found stabbed to death Friday in their vacation condominium on the Dutch Caribbean island.
Chief Prosecutor Hans Mos said Thelma King was tied to a chair.
The newspaper also reported Monday police believe Johnson may be responsible for other crimes on the island.
The Kings were part-time residents of St. Maarten and owned several homes, including one in Mt. Pleasant, where they spent much of their time. Friends of the couple said they were known to frequent the VFW Post on Isle of Palms and the Water's Edge Restaurant on Shem Creek.
Friends say they were about to start a spiced-rum business.
