Marine banner, colors among items inside stolen truck

CALHOUN COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

There are some angry Marines in Calhoun County after thieves stole a pickup truck that belonged to a member of the Marine Corps league. The unit's colors -- their flag and banners -- were in the back.

"I'd really like to get a hold of 'em," said John Sigh, the owner of the truck. "I really would."

Sigh says you can't even put a price tag on the flag and banners.

"The pride of the detachment is in those colors," said Sigh. "For somebody just to take it, I'm sure they don't have a need for it. I'm quite confident Marines didn't steal my vehicle."

But Marines, and other servicemen and women, would know why these streamers are so important. Sigh is a member of the Marine Corps League's Speedy Wilson detachment.

Last week, he'd just returned from a national convention when on the morning of Sept. 11 of all days, someone stole his truck.

"We had insurance on the vehicle, it can be replaced," said Sigh. "The streamers can't be replaced."

The detachment has collected them since 1992. They represent competitions and conventions. Sigh has sent the information to Marines across the southeast. He says the thieves better hope the cops catch them first.

"Unfortunately for the bad guys, the brotherhood, it doesn't matter if they're our members or not, they're gonna find that vehicle and find those individuals," said Sigh. "We're gonna get our colors back one way or the other."

The Calhoun County Sheriff's Department is searching for the truck and the streamers. If you have information that could help, call Crimestoppers at 1 888-CRIME-SC.
