IRMO, SC (WIS) -
It will soon be lights, camera, action on Saturday night at Harbison Theatre. The space isn't exactly new, but this is the first year theatre director Katie Fox says they will showcase their family and signature series.
"This year, we truly fulfill our mission, which is to offer things to the Midlands that haven't been able before," Fox said. "Acts that perform overseas and all around the country are now going to be right here in Irmo."
So instead of having to leave the area to see first rate productions, you can stay closer to home.
"You will not have to travel to Charleston or to DC or Charlotte to see things that are truly international caliber arts," Fox said.
First up in the rotation is a play featuring local artist Darion McLoud called "Story Squad".
"He's joined by artists and musicians and other storytellers and in a highly theatricalized version of his storytelling," Fox said.
The following weekend, you can check out "All Hands on Deck", a nationally touring production that features songs from the World War II era.
And just two weeks later, another production comes to town.
"We bring you 'Pilobolus', which though difficult to say, is probably the biggest name act that we will have here all season," said Fox. "They are a contemporary dance company and have been seen on the Oscars, on Oprah Winfrey, they are in one of the newest OK Go videos."
The outcome of bringing big names to town is hopefully a full house, so to see a schedule of shows and to purchase tickets you can visit the theatre's web page.
