CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

An airplane that left Charleston International Airport Tuesday morning has crashed near the Macon Downtown Airport, according to officials.

Charleston International Airport Director of Public Affairs Becky Beaman said the crash happened while the plane was trying to land around 10:05 a.m., when it apparently hydroplaned.

Beaman said the plane, a Beech 400, came to rest in some trees at the end of the runway. Three people on board sustained minor injuries.

The aircraft is registered to a company in Delaware, said Beaman. Bibb County Sheriff's Office spokesman Sean DeFoe told 13WMAZ, a CBS-affiliate in Macon, that the plane is owned by the Dewberry Air corporation and that the passengers were in town for a business trip.

The plane left Charleston around 9:30 a.m.

The National Transportation and Safety Board is expected to arrive today to investigate the crash, according to 13WMAZ.
