Three charged in murder near zoo

Three people have been arrested and charged in connection with the murder of a 50-year-old man near the Riverbanks Zoo last week.

Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott said Tymeka Lakager Moore, 27, Jimmy Dunbar, Jr., 32, and Yusuf Karim Aquil, 34, are accused of killing Marion J. Spencer and setting his pick-up truck on fire on September 18.

While responding to a brush fire shortly after midnight near 500 Candi Ln. members of the Columbia-Richland Fire Department discovered the body of Marion J. Spencer and quickly called police.

Then, shortly after 2 a.m., fire crews responded to a vehicle fire at the 200 block of East Exchange Boulevard. The vehicle, a 1996 Chevy S-10, is registered to Spencer.

Moore is charged with murder, third degree arson, kidnapping, armed robbery and criminal conspiracy.

Dunbar is charged with murder, third degree arson, kidnapping, armed robbery and criminal conspiracy and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Yusuf K. Aquil is charged with murder, kidnapping, armed robbery and criminal conspiracy.

The circumstances surrounding the crimes are still being investigated.
