Dash cam video released of chase that injured pregnant woman

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Authorities have released dash camera video of a car chase that ended with the suspect's vehicle crashing into a car that flipped over and injured a 27-year-old pregnant woman and her 9-year-old child.

The video appears to show the suspect's car weaving through traffic as police attempt to stop the vehicle. Officers are also seen on the video running on foot looking for the suspect.

The North Charleston Police Department arrested 24-year-old Cleo Williams Jr., of North Charleston in the incident.

According to police, officers attempted to stop Williams' vehicle as it was traveling westbound on the Highway 52 connector approaching Greenridge Road.

Authorities say Williams failed to yield and accelerated away from an officer's patrol car. That officer was then involved in a minor collision on Rivers Avenue and Greenridge Road.

At one point, police say Williams traveled on Rivers Avenue in the wrong direction at a high rate of speed. As officers attempted to locate the vehicle, investigators spotted a collision involving four cars on Rivers Avenue past Otranto Road.

According to police, Williams' car collided with three vehicles, one of which rolled over on its side. The occupants of that vehicle, a pregnant woman and her 9-year-old child, were transported to Trident Hospital for minor injuries. An occupant of another vehicle was also transported to the hospital for treatment.

A police report states that Williams fled on foot from the vehicle, but witnesses pointed officers in the direction of the suspect and he was caught following a brief foot pursuit

Investigators say a large sum of money and a handgun were located in Williams' vehicle.

Williams was charged with failure to stop for blue lights and siren, unlawful carrying of a pistol, four counts of first-degree assault and battery, leaving the scene of an accident with bodily injury, and driving under suspension fourth offense.
