WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) -

Police say someone chiseled inside the home of the Porter-Gaud School headmaster over the weekend and stole pieces of silver and fine china.

According to a Charleston Police Department incident report, Headmaster David Egleston's Albemarle Road home was broken into at some point Saturday night while he was asleep, and the manner of entry was quite unusual.

The report states a panel of the side door to the house had been chiseled out, removed, and then replaced during the course of the theft. Police said no damage was done to door handles or the deadbolt, leading them to believe the suspect(s) entered through the space where the panel had been removed.

Egleston told officers he regularly holds parties and has guests so there are numerous people "who have access to the residence at any given time." He also told them he didn't hear anyone in the home during the night.

About $12,000 in valuables were taken from the home, according to the report.

The case is under investigation.
