COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -
Funeral information for former University of South Carolina quarterback Allen Mitchell has been announced.
Visitation is Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Milton-Shealy Funeral Home in Batesburg-Leesville. The funeral will take place on Wednesday at Lexington Baptist Church on Main Street at 11 a.m. A private burial will follow.
Pallbearers
will include David Lewis, William Robinson, Jones Andrews, Monty
Shealy, Randy Barnes, Buck Gore, Joe Edens III, and Bob Blose. Honorary
pallbearers will include Glen Shumpert, Trenton Cromer and Denver
Cromer. Special seating will be reserved during the service for all
former high school and college teammates and coaches.
WIS sources confirmed that Allen Mitchell committed suicide on September 9. No details were released.
He was 48 years old.
Mitchell was the Gamecocks starting quarterback for the 1984 "Black Magic" team, which posted a 10-2 record. Mitchell started for a majority of the season, which at the time, posted the best record in school history.
The Gamecocks were ranked number two in the nation.
Mitchell is survived by his wife and two children.
