Troopers seek vehicle that hit, killed pedestrian

South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a collision that left a pedestrian dead early Thursday morning.

Troopers say the incident happened sometime after 1 a.m. on Houcks Gin Road about 2.6 miles east of the town of Cameron.

Calhoun County Coroner Donnie Porth identified the victim as Robert Watkins, Jr., 51, of Cameron. Porth said Watkins' exact cause of death is pending an autopsy. 

Investigators have not been able to determine what type of vehicle hit Watkins or which direction is was traveling.

No other details were available.

The Highway Patrol and Calhoun County Coroner's Office are investigating.
