COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -
Four weeks and seven pounds down, Erika Moore is taking charge of her life and her health, most importantly.
"It helps to have a cheerleader in your corner," Moore said. "They are saying, 'Great job, Erika' and I'm like, 'Thank you, sir. You're a great trainer.'"
Moore is taking part in the city of Columbia's Health Wellness Program and has even managed to stop taking her daily injections of insulin for Diabetes.
"We have high insurance costs for employees, high medical costs, and I just believe if employees take advantage that it will help everyone involved," Moore said.
With the addition of the employee healthcare center just across the street from the Drew Wellness center, the city is hoping to take things to a new level. Officials are hoping to save an estimated $2 million during its first year in operation since fewer insurance claims will equal savings.
"Every time I go to a specialist, I'm only paying $25," Moore said. "I don't know the true cost for the city, but I imagine it's in the thousands."
Getting healthy is a journey, but Moore says she is committed and would ultimately like to reach her goal of being a size ten.
