CHARLOTTE, NC (WIS) - The spotlight might be on Democrats this week in Charlotte, but Republicans are on the stage, too.

"Over here, this is out Romney/Ryan racecar that we have set up," said RNC Press Secretary Matt Connelly.

Aiming for North Carolina, the Republican National Committee is working around the clock in Charlotte to stay on top of the Democratic Party's convention.  The RNC spent thousands of dollars on a war room where staffers are tweeting, e-mailing and posting to YouTube the latest counter messages from the GOP.

"We need to make sure that we're watching everything president Obama says so we can fact check it," said Connelly. "We can correct the record and we can make sure the public is getting the right information."

Connelly took us inside the war room. But we couldn't say long.

Connelly said his staffers are pushing out tweets and Facebook updates nearly every minute.

"We're making sure that we're getting our message out and also that we're holding the president and his team accountable for the false attacks they're spreading and also for his failed record over the last four years," he said.

Another way the RNC is getting its message out is through radio and satellite interviews.

They've set up shop inside the NASCAR Plaza and equipped a studio for daily press conferences, like one Tuesday featuring one of the party's stars, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley.

"If you keep doing what you've always been doing, you're going to keep getting what you've always gotten," Haley said.

The RNC is using politicians for daily news conferences to get the media in and get the GOP's message out.

The RNC will be in Charlotte through the end of the Democratic convention. The committee says they haven't launched this large of an effort before, but they plan to do it in the future.
