ATLANTA (AP) - Richard Cue passed for 300 yards and three touchdowns to lead South Carolina State to a 33-6 rout of Georgia State on Thursday in the season opener for both teams.
On the game's third play from scrimmage, Cue hit Lennel Elmore for a 72-yard scoring pass. He later threw touchdown passes of 22 and 13 yards to Tyler McDonald. On the night, he was 19 for 29 with two interceptions. But those miscues hardly mattered.
Ben McLane, Georgia State's freshman quarterback, struggled. He completed 7 of 15 passes for just 54 yards and was sacked five times. On the Panthers' first possession of the second half, Matt Ehasz kicked a 25-yard field goal to pull Georgia State within 14-6.
But Cue capped off the ensuing drive with a 13-yard strike to McDonald to put the game away for good.
Dominique Mitchell returned a late fumble for a 68-yard touchdown.
