ELGIN, SC (WIS) -
A mobile home community in Elgin is raising a stink. For nearly two days, they've been without water and they're blaming their landlord.
"We have no water," said Christine Soberano. "Can't cook, clean, can't take a bath. Can't do anything. Just stuck."
Fifty families are stuck at the Hacienda Mobile Home Park without one of the most bare essentials. Cierra Hayes is 8 months pregnant. She's buying bottled water, but it's costly.
"Causes me to go into contractions because the baby needs water," Hayes said.
Neighbors say this is not the first time they've been without water. They blame the landlord for not paying the utility bill even though they have been paying their's.
Neighbors have contacted DHEC for help. Our cameras were there while DHEC employees talked to the landlord's property manager, Linda Newman. Newman told authorities some of the tenants have not been paying rent, so the landlord can't afford to pay the bill.
"We don't have the money to evict nobody," Newman said. "I can't afford to evict them."
Newman says the property owner lives in California and has given up. According to her, the trailer park is currently in foreclosure.
DHEC says the City of Columbia will restore water through next Tuesday until neighbors can find another place to go.
