TAMPA, FL (WIS) -
A ride through downtown Tampa shows just how tightly controlled law enforcement is on the flow of cars and people.
Every road that leads anywhere near the convention hall
is either shut down or guarded by local, state, and federal officers.
Everyone is searched: reporters, government
vehicles, and even vehicles driven by police officers.
It's the same story at every barricade, all in an effort
to keep thousands of convention goers and political figures out of harms way.
Security officers perform the same checks, multiple times
each minute.
How they do it and how many officers it takes is
secret. The Secret Service wouldn't let us get close enough to video the
process.
Tampa police pulled officers in from all over the
state and activated their state National Guard to protect the city's
government buildings from threats of terrorism and from protestors.
The same security measures we showed you in the piece
will go in place next week in Charlotte for the Democratic National Convention.
