COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

The military records of a man accused of kidnapping Midlands teenager Gabrielle Swainson show he served 27 months in the U.S. Army before he was discharged.

In records released under the Freedom of Information Act, military records show 52-year-old Freddie Grant entered the Army in January of 1979 in Miami. He was discharged in April of 1981.

Grant was arrested Sunday on federal weapons charges. On Tuesday, he was charged with kidnapping in the disappearance of the 15-year-old.

Swainson has been missing since August 18th.

Grant underwent basic training at Fort Jackson. He was decorated with a sharpshooter badge and automatic rifle bar.

The military records show Grant served in Korea for one year. During that year in Korea, his record shows he was reported AWOL twice for a total of three days.

He was given a trial and then imprisoned at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas in June, 1980.

He was later discharged in April of 1981.
