SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC (WYFF) - An
Upstate woman is facing charges after deputies said she left her
3-year-old child inside a Walmart while she slept in the parking lot.
Deputies said the mother also had meth in her purse.
Deputies
said they were called to a Walmart in Spartanburg County on Monday
just after 10 p.m. about a child left in a shopping cart inside the
store.
When
deputies arrived they were told by Walmart employees that a woman was
seen on surveillance video leaving the child in the shopping cart and
walking out of the store.
The
child told deputies her mother was in the bathroom, but numerous
attempts to locate the woman were not successful, deputies said.
Deputies
said they went through a purse left in the shopping cart and found a
birth certificate and Social Security card for Kimberly Nichole Brewer.
Brewer was later identified as the child's mother, according to deputies.
Deputies said they also found meth in a wallet of the purse.
The child was taken into protective custody.
Five
hours later, at about 3 a.m., Walmart employees called deputies and
said Brewer had come into the store and told them she had been asleep in
her car and when she woke up she realized her purse and her daughter
were missing.
Brewer is charged with child neglect and possession of meth.
