Police investigate meth labs in 2 hotel rooms

Posted: Updated:

Columbia Police investigators believe a pair of meth labs found inside two different hotel rooms Sunday are connected.

Officers found the first meth lab in a room at the Studio Plus Hotel on Stoneridge Dr. Sunday after receiving a tip from Crimestoppers.

They arrested 33-year-old Cody Hobirk, 25-year-old Ashley Ellett and 25-year-old Krista Suchy on charges of manufacturing meth, possession with intent to distribute, possession of heroin, and several other drug charges.

Investigators believe Hobirk and Ellett are from Lexington County. Suchy had a Florida driver's license.

As officers approached the room, they say they could smell a strong odor. Once inside the room, officers say they saw drug paraphernalia and suspected meth cooking in a plastic bottle in plain view.

Officers evacuated adjacent rooms as a precaution. CPD Narcotics Officers arrived on scene and field tested the liquid in the bottle as methamphetamine.

As that drug bust was going on, officers got additional information about another suspected meth lab inside a room at Extended Stay America on Gracern Road.

There they arrested 45-year-old Robin Gleaton and one of her sons, Dalton Howard. They are charged with manufacturing methamphetamine. Howard is also charged with providing false information to police.

When officers approached the hotel room, they say could also smell a strong order of a chemical substance. When they went inside the room, officers found meth cooking inside of another plastic bottle.

The liquid substance was also positively field tested for methamphetamine.

Investigators believe that both incidents are connected.

SLED was called for assistance in cleaning up both meth labs. The Columbia-Richland Fire Department assisted with the investigation.
