COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -
Hill's Barbershop is a well known spot in the Edgewood community. Mostly because Moses Felder and his clippers have been holding it down for four decades.
"I just thank God for allowing me to be here that long," said Felder.
Felder started his career under John Hill, the original owner. Forty years ago, he purchased the shop after Hill died.
Ever since then, he's cut heads of everyone from politicians and college presidents to neighbors on the block.
"It means so much to serve people and this community has been so good to me," said Felder.
And they say he's been good to them.
"That's my friend," said Zeke Williams. "That's my homeboy."
"My car broke down in Pelion at 3:00a.m.," said Williams. "Only one phone call I could make. Moses Felder, he came and got me."
"He's always helping someone that needs their light bill paid or water bill paid or needing someone to talk to," said Felder's pastor Johnny Ray Noble.
So last month, Noble and his church members decided to do something special.
While Felder was on vacation they renovated his entire shop, giving it a diner theme from top to bottom.
Today it has new floors, walls and counter tops. And very soon, it will have free wi-fi.
The $6,000 cost was paid for by community donations.
"It just brought tears to my eyes," said Felder. "I couldn't believe it, that they would do this for a little servant like me in the community."
It's a blessing the 72-year-old Felder will never forget
"Gave me my flowers while I can still smell them."
