Thousands get community credentials for DNC

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Thousands of volunteers for President Obama's re-election campaign stood in line several hours Saturday to get their community credentials. They hope to see the President and Vice President accept their party's nominations on the last night of the Democratic National Convention.

Crystal Gaines of Charlotte says she stood in line Friday for a couple of hours outside the Obama campaign office on West Boulevard to get her credential "because this is a once in a lifetime event and this will maybe never happen in Charlotte again. So I'm really excited about the event that we can stand here and hold that ticket and see the President."

Convention organizers recommend people take public transit to Bank of America Stadium.

The Democratic National Convention Committee also have park and ride shuttles for people coming from outside of Charlotte. Ticket holders in the south can park at Carowinds Amusement Park and those coming from the north can park at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Both parking locations will open at 11am on Thursday September 6th, 2012. There will be 150 buses going back and forth from the lots to the stadium. The stadium will open at 1 p.m.

Convention organizers say "the sooner people get to the stadium, the sooner they can get inside the stadium."

With thousands of people expected, the DNCC says ticket holders should bring a snack and water to have while waiting in lines to have their tickets checked, and to go through security. Food and water bottles will not be allowed in the stadium.

Where to pickup your community credential

There will be concession stands inside the stadium.

Sunday, August 26th, people can still line up to get their community credentials. Campaign officials warn it will be on a first come, first serve basis. People can line up as early as they want, but the doors open at 10:00am. The credentials will given away nationwide but the majority of the tickets will be given to North Carolinians and residents in neighboring states.

Convention organizers say anyone with a credential can utilize the park and ride.
