COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -
Yahoo! Sports says South Carolina head football coach Steve Spurrier is running the 8th best coaching staff in the country.
"Spurrier has made South Carolina football relevant nationally, not an easy task," sports reporter Mike Huguenin wrote to start off.
Huguenin says that while mediocre quarterback play has plagued Spurrier's offenses since he got here, the Head Ball Coach's defenses have been stellar.
"[Defensive coordinator Lorenzo] Ward says he will be even more aggressive than [former defensive coordinator Ellis] Johnson, which (with an apology to Nigel Tufnel of Spinal Tap) would be akin to turning the volume to 11 on a stereo whose volume control only goes to 10," Huguenin said.
Huguenin also highlights defensive line coach Brad Lawing and offensive line coach Shawn Elliot in his write-up, saying Lawing does a "good job" and Elliot has "elevated the play of his unit since his arrival".
Not that it should surprise anyone, but Alabama and Nick Saban top the list.
"Saban is the best coach in the country," Huguenin said.
