City gives employees time off for first day of school

Posted: Updated:

The City of Columbia is allowing all employees with children in school two hours off with pay to take their children to the first day of school and help them start a new year of learning on the right foot.

"I encourage you to join me by taking part in this wonderful moment in our children's lives by taking them to their first day of school and helping start this year with energy, eager to learn and feeling our support and our love," said Mayor Steve Benjamin.

The first day of school is a time of promise and potential and, by participating in this milestone, parents have the opportunity to show their children how important education is to their future and how dedicated the City of Columbia is to making that future as bright as possible.

This is the third year of the initiative.
