COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Columbia Police have charged a 16-year-old with attempted murder for a shooting Thursday afternoon.

Officers were called to a home in the 1300 block of Mount Vernon St. at about 4 p.m. Thursday for a report of a shooting.

Investigators say the teen and another suspect were involved in an argument with a man inside the home, who was shot.  The victim was taken to a hospital, where his condition has not been released.

After the shooting, police say the teen ran toward Hyatt Park Elementary School. Officers caught up with him after a short chase near the school.

Investigators say the teen and another suspect forced their way into the home on Mt. Vernon St., got into an argument with the man inside the home and shot him in the head.

Police say after the man was shot, he tried to run after the suspects.

Investigators are trying to determine if a gun found at the scene is the weapon used in the shooting.

The teen is held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on charges of attempted murder, burglary, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
