COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

A fire that displaced 19 people at the Hampton Greene Apartment complex on Gills Creek Parkway has been ruled accidental, according to fire officials.

Fire officials with the Columbia-Richland Fire Department arrived at the scene shortly after 10 a.m. and reported "heavy fire" coming from the top of building 6.

While only one building was directly affected by the fire, another building's siding melted due to the heat from the flames.

The fire's cause remains under investigation, but officials believe it may have started on the back balcony of one of the top floor apartments.

While there are no reports of any human injuries, officials at the scene removed an injured cat from the building. There is no word on the current condition of the cat.

Officials estimate the damage to be worth $250,000 to $300,000.

The Red Cross is also at the scene to aid those who have been displaced.
