Perspective: A WIS Editorial - Chick-Fil-A Controversy

After all these years, Chick-Fil-A President, Dan Cathy, was recently  asked by a reporter with the BAPTIST PRESS in an election year about his company's stance on marriage.  His response created quite an uproar, but why did people react the way they did? The company has never tried to hide the fact that they are Christian-based ..why, they're even closed on Sundays.

It's no coincidence he's asked the question mere weeks after Obama comes out in support of gay marriage.  Remember the Newsweek cover with the headline "America's First Gay President?" Neither political party has a whole lot to point to in the last 3 years to say "look what we built" or "look what we've done for you."  But this issue gives conservatives something to contrast themselves with against democrats .

We must be very careful not to be distracted by debates like this when a critical election is in sight. Where's the nationwide debate about the economy and economic freedom?   Most people can't debate the economy because they don't understand it very well, but they sure do understand traditional marriage vs. gay marriage.  Only during a presidential election year could you have a national debate about the definition of marriage born out of a fried chicken joint!  Fried chicken, faith, and politics. No need for waffle fries when you've got those three simmerin' on the stove.

That's my perspective.  What's yours?
