MEMPHIS, TN - (WMC-TV) – The Airport Inn on East Brooks Road is an affordable alternative for travelers or those seeking a place to stay by the week. We looked no further than Debbie Guerrero's ring to figure out why she was there.
"For Elvis Week," said Geurrero. "It's wonderful."
But Guerrero was "all shook up" by news that alleged pimp Eric Sims was arrested Sunday in one of the rooms and charged with keeping a 17 year-old runaway as a sex slave.
"Cause I have an 18 year-old granddaughter and a 15 year-old granddaughter who likes to get on that Facebook thing," said Geurrero. "And I think that's just horrible."
According to an arrest affidavit, the teen was forced to have sex with men Sims solicited through Internet ads. Police say he got paid while she got condoms and the motel room to take her customers.
A motel employee who did not want to be on camera told Action News 5 he saw Sims dragging the teen down a stairwell. Sims told him to mind his own business when confronted.
Officers finally arrested Sims after they said he kicked down the door of another room searching for the teen who had hidden inside.
"And she was at that point, seeking help," said MPD Sex Crimes Lt. Wilton Cleveland.
Wilton Cleveland said many trafficking victims don't even attempt to get away.
"The pimps manipulate these girls and the girls don't feel like they're being manipulated," said Cleveland. "But that's what these guys do and they're good at it."
Debbie Guerrero was glad at least one alleged victim escaped.
"You know, because these are babies," said Geurrero. "These are somebody's babies."
We're told the teen either returned home or placed in DCS custody. At last check, Eric Sims was being held on a $250,000 bond.
