COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -
With the uncelebratory 20th anniversary of her disappearance upon us, local and state law enforcement officials hope that you have information that can lead to her return home.
In September of 1992, the Irish rock band U2 brought its "Zoo TV" tour to Williams-Brice Stadium.
Among tens of thousands there was the petite
23-year-old art history graduate who'd recently moved back to Columbia
to live at home and continue her schoolwork at USC. After the concert,
Dail and her friends went to a Five Points bar called Jungle Jim's.
A couple of hours later, she separated from the group and was gone. She is still gone.
Dinwiddie's parents, along with Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott, and SLED Chief Mark Keel unveiled a new age progression photo at a news conference on August 10.
The photo shows what a 43-year-old Dinwiddie would look like today if she is still alive. The new rendition of Dail's appearance was put together by State Law Enforcement Division artist Debbie Goff.
"We look at the photographs of parents when they were younger and how they aged as well as siblings and how that sibling aged. And we look at Dail and see who she favors most or what tendencies she might have and then age-progress the image," Goff said.
Despite two decades of searching, Dan and Jean Dinwiddie have not given up hope of finding their daughter.
Jean says maybe the new picture can break an investigative impasse and end the family's suffering.
"A mother never rests when any of children is not known to be safe. Today, 20 years after the abduction of my child, I still cannot rest easy because I don't know where she is," Jean said. "We ask that even if you will not help us solve this crime, would you please let us know how to find Dail?"
If the enhanced photo is not enough, says Lott, there's also a substantial reward.
"If money is your motivation, then we'll pay you $20,000 to bring some closure to this case and to this family," Lott said.
If you know anything about the disappearance of Dail Dinwiddie, you are urged to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
