COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -
Verizon Wireless customers in the Midlands have voice service back after an outage left many without the ability to make or receive phone calls Friday afternoon.
The cause of the service interruption is still unclear, but a spokesperson with Verizon sent the following statement to WIS shortly after 4 p.m.
"Verizon Wireless engineers were able to identify and resolve the issue promptly. Service is being fully restored and we expect full network service within moments."
WIS heard from people all over the Midlands and in some locations in South Carolina who experienced problems with cell service. The outage lasted approximately an hour and a half.
The problem appeared to be isolated to voice service. Data service including text and 3G/4G LTE data systems was working.
