Family escapes injury when storm blows tree onto home

NEWBERRY COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

A Newberry County Sheriff's Deputy and his family were not injured when a storm blew a tree on their house Thursday night. 

Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster said Deputy Daniel Floyd, his wife, Rose and their infant daughter were home when the tree fell on their house on Old Main St. in Chappells.

"We heard tree limbs crack and we looked out the front door and saw the tree start to fall over," said Daniel Floyd. "We ran and grabbed our daughter out of the living room because it was falling literally right where she was."

The Floyd's home suffered "considerable damage" and their belongings were damaged by water.

Rose Floyd is a 911 dispatcher with Newberry County.

A strong line of storms passed through Newberry County and most of the Midlands Thursday night.

"I have not seen that heavy rain in that amount of time since the Newberry flood in the mid 80's," said Foster. 

"The lord was definitely look over our whole family," said Floyd.  "After everything we kind of had moment were we both broke down and realized just how lucky we were."
